The history of Jagannath Puri Temple

The background of Jagannath Puri Temple is a captivating tale. Jagannath was a secret worshipper of the king Vishwavasu in the form of Neela Madhabaga, in a forest.

King Indradyumna interested in knowing more about the god, sent the Brahmin priest called Vidyapati in the direction of Vishwas. The effort of teacher to locate this place failed.

He was however in love with the beloved daughter Lalit and got married to her. At the request of his teacher, the faith-based man blindfolded his son-in-law and took them to the temple, where they worshipped Jagannath. The clever educator dropped the mustard seeds while he was on his way.

Following this, king Indradyumna was taken to Odisha to see the goddess. But, he could not discover the statue. Though he was disappointed He decided to go to Jagannath's statue. Jagannath.

A voice suddenly told him to construct an altar on the blue rock. Then, the king instructed his soldiers to construct an exquisite temple to Vishnu.

The king then requested Brahma to construct the temple. But, Brahma was in meditation for nine years. At that time, the temple was hidden in the sand.

While the king lay in bed, he became frightened when the voice in his head asked him to locate an uninhabited tree on the shore and to make statues.

By this, the King again constructed a stunning temple and also erected statues of Jagannatha Balabhadra as well as Subhadra, all made out of the magnificent tree.
